Creation of the world II by Nabooru-chan Creation of the world II by Nabooru-chan
An artwork for the (German) Zelda RPG "Zelda Chronicles", where I'm part of the team. We've come up with a history of Hyrule, that tells the past from the creation of the world until the start of the RPG, and want to decorate it with individual pictures.

This is in fact the second artwork for the chronicle text "Creation of the world". As the artist of the first drawing (which you can see here - edited by me; I also tried to imitate her style in my picture) disappeared, I helped out to complete the illustration of the text. Although I'm normally responsible for writing the texts and although it was my first try with the style (not to mention that I don't draw often … thanks to the everlasting fight against my drawing tablet … one day I'll beat you!), I enjoyed it and got a crush on this style. It remained not the only one I made. :D

The picture shows Farore the Goddess of Courage producing all life forms and creating the primary peoples (we call them the Four respectively the Five Fruits): Gorons, Zoras, Dekus, Humans and the Old Folk (ancestors of the Hylians).

Main reference was, of course, the prologue of "The Wind Waker", the background texture is from !croix22 (though the account is deactivated ...). The worn out looking lines are the result of experimentation with filters and layers in Photoshop. The picture is from February 2012 and took me about two evenings (and some hours of the nights).

Comments are welcome!
(And sorry for my poor English ...)

Thanks! (For the comment, the favourite, the watch and all the support. <3) I'm glad you like the Deku Scrub, as I've worried that it looks more like a bee or a Pikmin. xD

That's a great compliment, thanks! I've thought about some tips and here they are. :D

- Make the outlines thick (as thick as it still looks good), and vary their size, too.
- Switch between mere lines and filled zones.
- Design everything as simple as possible, whether the anatomy of figures or the background.
- Use also simple forms, patterns and objects to fill free space.
- Don't work to exactly, be slightly inaccurate, that's good for the woodcut-style.
- Apply only few colours to emphasize main elements.
- Very important: The texture for the worn-out look and the paper-like background. Either they are self-made or you search for something suitable. I combine both methods: I make the texture for the lines and rework the background texture I've found.

I hope that will help you at least. :)
